Welcome to Not Your Publicist’s first online course: Commodification Of Self. In this course, we will cover the basics of personal branding, AKA monetizing yourself. . .whether that is your brain, your body, your feet, your voice, your humour, your looks, your personality, your iconicness. I share my industry secrets and breakdown my advice via video and writing, all organized into step-by-step easy-to-digest lessons.
I have worked in personal branding for over four years, working closely with individual clients and brands from all walks of work. I began my career managing Stella Barey and other new-age porn/Onlyfans creators, and then branched out into consulting for actors, podcasters, and others in the world of traditional media. In other words, I have been working hard at curating your favorite “it girls” and slaying the gatekeeper dinosaur agents one by one.
This course is for those who may not have access to my individual consulting or managing, and is meant to serve the masses: all forms of online creators. This course is right for you if you are wanting to: build a personal brand, curate an audience for your existing social media, prime your followers for the launch of a product or new brand, authenticate your voice and clarify your vision, and/or become proud of the content you put out into the world: whether that is porn, writing, acting, comedy, podcasts, or anything else you may channel into the world through the self. Let this be the birthplace of the best version of you. Let it be the place where you quit doubting your creativity and put pen to paper. Let it be the world you dive into that helps you create a much more important one: your world.
Commodification Of Self
-
Part 1: Marketing
-
Business Cards
Let’s begin with something counterintuitive: in an era dominated by the digital, where personal brands are built and dismantled at the whim of algorithms, one of the most indispensable tools you can possess is. . .
-
Word of Mouth
A brand, at its inception, is not a product. It is a person. It is you. Everything else—the book, the Substack, the OnlyFans, a product, the Patreon—is an extension of that identity, a manifestation of the ideas and aesthetics you represent. . .
-
Costume
Now, let’s discuss the importance of creating your signature look, what I like to call your “costume.” This is your visual identity—your trademark that people will instantly recognize. . .
-
Logos & Catchphrases
Let’s move to the next point: catchphrases and logos. Let’s think of iconic catchphrases that have brought us closer to a celebrity, or at least made them a lot easier to remember. We can sometimes even remember their catchphrase first…
-
Email Lists
Email lists are more important than you realize. They’re one of the only guarantees you have of reaching your audience if you ever get shut down on. . .
-

Sonic Logos
Okay—time for a little disclaimer. I’m not an influencer. But I am a hyper-observant strategist who’s spent a lot of time watching what works—and what doesn’t—in the creator universe. . .

Consistent Background
Okay—time for a little disclaimer. I’m not an influencer. But I am a hyper-observant strategist who’s spent a lot of time watching what works—and what doesn’t—in the creator universe. . .
-
Aesthetic
Okay, we’ve started setting the scene. You’re establishing your look, your tone, the vibe of your content. But now we’re stepping into more elusive territory—the unspeakable thing. . .
-
Authentic Voice
You need to speak in your videos. It doesn’t have to be on every platform, but somewhere in your content, your audience should hear or read your actual voice. . .
-
Collaborations
At some point, whether you’re an OF creator or just a social media personality, you’ll feel the urge to collaborate with like-minded people. Resist it—for now. Build your brand, establish your personality, and let people get attached to you before introducing others into the mix. . .
-
-
Part 3: Products
-
Priming Your Audience
Think of your product as a supporting character in the movie of your life. Before it ever launches, it should already feel familiar to your audience—like something they’ve been watching slowly come to life. Great personal brands do this without us even noticing. . .
-
Supply & Demand
“Some of you may think. . .”
-
Pay Per View Sites
Let’s dive into pay-per-view (PPV) platforms. Just like building an email list, having a PPV site for your content is about reclaiming control over your work and monetizing it on your terms. It’s a direct rejection of platforms like Instagram. . .
-
Writing
For online platforms to share your writing on, I love Medium, Substack, and even Tumblr. Medium is where I started my career. I wrote personal essays and had something to point to when approaching celebrities. No one wants to take a chance on an unknown writer with nothing to show for it. . .
-
Physical Products
The final ascension of creating a product from your personal brand is severing yourself from it. . .
